I.K.O Goju Ryu Karate Do
Sensei Kwame Aforo-Addo
Born: 1979
Grade: Shodan 1st Dan
Sensei Kwame began training under Shihan Theodore Tsanidis at the old Lakemba Dojo in 2003 at the age of twenty four (24). He continued to train under the Shihan and was awarded his black belt 1st Dan (Shodan) in 2009 at the age of thirty (30). He competed in his first AMAC (Australian Martial Arts Championships) tournament in 2010 and won first place in the point sparring category (brown belts and above).
A perfectionist by nature, Sensei Kwame believes in putting more time and effort away from the class by stretching daily at home as well as doing some cardio work during the week. Sensei Kwames favourite Kata are Sepai and Sanseru. Sensei Kwame was inspired to learn karate due to his love of martial art movies as a teen. Keen about cardio fitness he also viewed karate as a way to complement his fitness, increase flexibility, and strength as well as to further enhancing his focus and discipline. A fan of the Karate kid movies, Sensei Kwame believes in the philosophy of learning Karate so that fighting is limited to self-defence and disarming techniques only.
Outside of work Sensei Kwame is a Senior Manager in the field of Customer Experience. He is grateful for the opportunity to instruct and views it as a way to give back to the community in addition to instilling focus and discipline in youths.
